Reinhold Brender

Reinhold Brender is a Senior Associate Fellow at Belgium's Egmont - Royal Institute for International Relations. As an EU official, he served in key positions including Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Cairo (with the rank of Minister), Political Counsellor at the European Commission Delegation in Washington, D.C., and Spokesperson for the EU Pillar of the UN Mission in Kosovo. From 2017 to 2022, he led the EEAS Division covering relations with Japan, the Korean Peninsula, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. Prior to joining the EU, he spent five years on the foreign affairs desk of Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. He holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in history and political science from the University of Freiburg.
